Adolescent therapy focuses on underlying emotional problems that may be impacting an adolescent’s daily life.
Through talk therapy, adolescents gain a deeper understanding of their distress and theirselves while learning valuable coping skills to help manage these feelings in the future. I believe all teens can become cycle breakers and learn healthy, adaptive ways of working through their feelings and the hardships they will face in life.
I have worked extensively with adolescents and strive to create a space where they feel understood, heard, and valued. I work alongside families to ensure consistency and support can be provided within the home.
Many times adolescents are referred to therapy when there are changes within the family system (e.g. moving, separation, divorce) and behavior problems result due to these changes such as emotional regulation difficulties, thoughts of suicide, self-harm, or relationship issues. In these cases, I bring in members of the family who are willing to join as a way of fostering loving connections and empathy to establish support and structure. My goal is to create an environment that is emotionally and physically safe where the adolescent can thrive. Opening doors for effective communication and boundaries can create a family dynamic that allows for stability during difficult times. This added element of therapy can help deepen family members’ understanding of the adolescent and gain valuable and effective coping skills that bring them closer together.
I utilize solution-focused therapy and EMDR to help teens overcome depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicidal ideation, self-confidence/image, life transitions and traumatic experiences.
